- Unit Information: Cardiovascular surgical, peripheral vascular surgical, arrhythmias, endocarditis, CHF exacerbation, and occasional overflow.
- Staffing Ratios: 1:5-6
- Floating Requirements: May be expected to float to different levels of care including Med-Surg, PCU, ICU with resources provided.
- Weekend Requirements: Must be flexible; expected to work 50% of weekends during the contract.
- Precepting: Travelers must be willing to precept and/or have students shadow them.
- Charge Nurse: May be required to cover charge nurse responsibilities with training and resources.
- Locals: Not accepted.
- License: IN/Compact license in hand or fingerprint application submitted required.
- IN RN Work Restriction: Effective 11/30/24, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at these facilities except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS).
Experience & Skills
- Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience.
- Skillset Preferences: Telemetry and IV Start.
- Floating: Refusal to float may result in contract termination.
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted (required for all candidates).
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – AHA NRP only.
- CHEMO (Chemotherapy Certification) – As required per unit.
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – As required per unit.
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – As required per unit.
- NIH Stroke Certification – As required per unit.
- Tech Cert Verification - National – As applicable.
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement – HIPAA acknowledgment required.
- State License Verification – Online verification within 30 days before start.
Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (not required for Techs or RRTs).
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent, minimum 100% score).
- Unit Competency Exam.
Health & Background Requirements
- Physical Exam: Completed within 12 months of start.
- Fit Mask: Fit test within 12 months with approved respirators (3M N95 models or Honeywell N95). On-site fit testing available only as last resort at select campuses.
- Immunizations & Titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
- Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required.
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
- Flu Seasonal Vaccination (2025-26): Required with no declinations accepted; exemptions must be approved.
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months.
- Background Checks: Must include 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, sex offender registry, FACIS Level III, education verification, and international search if applicable.
- References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment within 2 years; must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above.
- Employment Application: Current with full work history; gaps of 30+ days must be explained.
- Skills Checklist: Required within 12 months and annually.
- TB Questionnaire: Required and must be updated annually.
- Color Blind Exam: Ishihara or equivalent with minimum 100% score.

- Call-in shifts must be made up or added to the end of the contract depending on FTE status.
- IU Health is a teaching facility; travelers must be open to precepting and student shadowing.
- Refusal to float or work required weekends may result in contract termination.
