PCU Registered Nurse
Overview
- Travel/contract role in Columbus, Ohio
- 16-week assignment
- Day or night 12-hour shifts; rotating schedules may include days, nights, or both depending on department needs
- 36-bed oncology telemetry unit with more than 24 beds dedicated to PCU-level care
- Medical oncology setting with progressive care beds and a small amount of med-surg
- Pediatric patients are extremely rare and pediatric experience is not required
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- PCU - Progressive Care Unit (1 year of experience)
- PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience in an Acute Care setting

- Interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Use of rapid response teams
- Feeding tube care and management
- Accessing ports
- Blood product administration
- Central line care and management
- Peripheral line care and management
- PICC line management
- IV starts
- Heparin protocols
- Cardiac drip management
- PCA management
- Cardiac drip titration
- Chest tubes
- External CPAP/BiPAP
- High-flow nasal cannula
- ABG interpretation
- Nasal cannula
- Tracheostomy management
Preferred Experience
- Oncology experience
- Dysrhythmia management
- IV insulin protocols
- Insulin drip titration
- Phlebotomy
- Chemotherapy administration and monitoring
- Wound care and wound vac
- Arterial line management

- Ratios: 1:3 in PCU; 1:4-5 in med-surg telemetry
- Parking is available through multiple permit options, with costs varying by permit type

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
