Location: Remote (can work from anywhere within the U.S.)
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, between 6am-7pm CST (flexible hours may include evenings and weekends as needed)
Contract Length: 52 weeks (1 year)

Job Description
The Inpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity (ICDI) Specialist is responsible for reviewing patient medical records in inpatient and/or outpatient settings to ensure accurate representation of illness severity and proper coding. This role validates that coding reflects medical necessity and accurately reports the patient's clinical status, risk of mortality, and complexity of care.
Key responsibilities include:
- Analyzing documentation to identify gaps using advanced knowledge of disease processes, medications, and critical thinking skills
- Supporting quality and effective coding through concurrent and retrospective review of clinical documentation
- Ensuring compliance with documentation, coding, and billing regulations for all health insurance plans
- Collaborating extensively with physicians, coding staff, case management, nursing, and other caregivers to facilitate documentation improvements
- Serving as an educator and resource to improve clinical documentation quality and completeness
- Performing duties in accordance with ethical, legal, and regulatory standards
Requirements
Education: High School diploma or GED required
Certifications:
- Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) or Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) certification required
- One of the following credentials required:
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P)
- International or Domestic Medical Degree (MD)
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years as an Inpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist
- At least the past 12 months must be in a production role
- Demonstrated skills in analytical thinking, problem solving, and effective verbal and written communication
- Ability to present ideas effectively to physicians, management, and healthcare team members
- Self-motivated and able to work independently without close supervision
- Ability to work well with others in a creative and challenging environment
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including possible evenings and weekends
