Medical Lab Technician

Job Overview

  • Specialty: Laboratory
  • Location: Charleston, South Carolina
  • Employment type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Evenings, Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM–10:30 PM
  • Weekend rotation: Works 2 full weekends in a row, then 4 weekends off
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: Does not float between service lines
  • Contract length: 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Medical Lab Technician (2 years of experience)
  • Medical Lab Technician experience within the last year
  • ASCP
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or a relevant medical or scientific discipline
  • Chemistry experience

Preferred Experience

  • Hematology and/or Chemistry experience

Schedule Notes

  • Weekend and holiday rotation
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks

Compliance / Pre-Start Requirements

  • 2 clinical references
  • Complete application/resume with PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
  • Copy of driver’s license or state ID
  • Copy of Social Security card
  • Work eligibility attestation and completed I-9 on file
  • Annual background check covering the past 7 years
  • Education verification required
  • Primary source verification required
  • State exclusion list clearance required
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Fit test within 90 days of start and renewed annually
  • Tdap within 10 years of start or declination
  • TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, and hepatitis B immunity or vaccination documentation
  • COVID vaccination documentation or declination
  • Flu vaccination documentation or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
  • Physical exam
  • Color blind testing
  • Competency exam
  • Orientation modules and first-day instructions must be completed before start
  • Badge photo required before start
  • Skills checklist for the applicable unit
  • Work history verification for prior clinical employers

Additional Notes

  • Local candidates are accepted on a case-by-case basis
  • Radius rule: 60 miles
  • All requested time off must be submitted at time of application
  • Hurricane season may require assignment to emergency response teams
