Occupational Therapist II - Travel/Contract
Location: San Mateo, California
Contract Length: 23 weeks
Job Summary
- Perform a full range of occupational therapy treatments with independence and proficiency.
- Apply specialized and advanced therapy treatments.
- May provide technical advice and training to less experienced staff.
- Work primarily Sunday through Thursday; first week Monday through Friday for training/orientation.
- Ability to work weekends and/or holiday coverage when necessary is strongly preferred.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Treat adults in skilled nursing and acute care settings.
Required Qualifications
Licensure & Certification
- Valid Occupational Therapist license in California.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of occupational therapy experience.
- Occupational therapy experience within the last year.
- Experience working with adult patients.
- Experience in an acute care setting.
Work Schedule
- Day shift, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, 5 days per week (40 hours/week).
- Preferred schedule Sunday through Thursday after orientation week.
Additional Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID (color copy required).
- Background checks including county history for the last 7 years and sex offender registry.
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start, including clearance of communicable diseases.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (declination accepted for Hep B).
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or annual declination.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 1 year.
- Annual flu vaccination or facility-specific declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
- COVID-19 vaccination highly recommended but not required; medical or religious exemption or declination accepted.
- Completion of facility-specific HIPAA training and acknowledgment prior to start.
- Two professional references within 3 years of hire.
- Annual skills checklist required.
Duties
- Plan and perform occupational therapy treatments under medical direction.
- Provide therapeutic activities to promote patient independence in daily living.
- Design and fabricate splints and instruct patients in therapeutic tool use.
- Document patient responses and participate in discharge planning.
- Maintain treatment area cleanliness and organization.
- May serve as a clinical preceptor for students.
Notes
- Extra-help hours may vary weekly and are limited to 1,040 hours per fiscal year.
- Extra-help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at assignment end.
- Transportation between work sites and lifting assistance may be required.
