Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical/Telemetry
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)

Unit Overview
- Inpatient Innovation Design Unit focused on testing new care models, technology, and facility design.
- 17 patient rooms divided into zones testing various room designs and equipment.
- Patient population: adult medical-surgical patients; plans to include progressive care levels.
- Primary nursing care model: 1 RN assigned to a group of patients.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4-5 (day), 1:5-6 (night).
- No labor and delivery or pediatric patients.
- Frequent floating required to meet staffing needs, including to multiple hospital units and potentially a nearby campus.
- Drip infusions required on all floors.
- EPIC electronic charting experience required.
- Facility is 100% nicotine-free.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Nebraska.
- Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience, including telemetry experience within the last year.
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Experience with EPIC electronic charting system.
Work Schedule & Requirements
- Night shift: 4 shifts per 8-day period (48 hours/week).
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period.
- Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
- Up to two weeks of requested time off (RTO) permitted; must be submitted with application.
- Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation).
- Parking: Permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates.
Patient Care & Team Composition
- Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and some LPNs.
- Units served may include medical-surgical, neuro, trauma, observation, and specialty units.
Innovations & Technology
- Virtual nursing and virtual sitter with ambient monitoring.
- Interactive patient experience platform (digital whiteboard and door sign).
- Real-time location system (RTLS).
- Facility design variations such as modular walls, ceiling lifts, UV sinks, zero-entry showers, and family zones.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Background check within 30 days of start, including multi-county and nationwide checks.
- Ongoing federal and state exclusion list checks (SAM, OIG).
- Education verification and primary source license verification required.
- Annual physical exam and fit mask test (3M 1860 Small/Regular or 3M 1870+).
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap within last 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray with TB questionnaire if history positive
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers (measles, mumps, rubella)
- Hepatitis B titer or declination
- Varicella vaccines or positive titer
- Drug screen within 60 days of start and annually
- Flu vaccine preferred but not mandatory; documentation or declination required.
- COVID vaccine preferred; medical/religious exemptions accepted.
- Annual skills checklist required.
- References: 2 work references from past 2 years (1 if not a current traveler).
- State-specific registry checks required within 30 days of start.
Additional Notes
- Travelers are first to float and must be prepared for frequent floating.
- Facility enforces strict nicotine-free policy.
- Pending license holders will be booked approximately six weeks out if license is not in hand at application.
- Scrubs and uniform details provided upon confirmation.
