Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

Location: Fredericksburg, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Description

  • Position requires an RRT with the ability to float between NICU, Emergency Room (ER), Adult ICU Stepdown units, pediatric units, and adult floors.
  • NICU assignments vary by acuity; this is not a NICU-only role.
  • Responsibilities include airway management, medication administration, arterial blood gas (ABG) draws and analysis, oxygen therapy, suctioning, pulmonary toileting, BiPAP, CPAP, and nebulizer treatments.
  • Night shift duties include aerosol, bronchial hygiene, lung inflation therapies, and management of CPAP/BiPAP.
  • Preferred experience in NICU, ED, adult ICU, and level 2 trauma care.
  • Work setting includes adult critical care, ER, and community hospital environments.
  • Mandatory attendance of monthly department meetings or acknowledgment of meeting minutes if not working.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Virginia
  • Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Experience and skill in BiPAP therapy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • Experience in NICU, ED, adult ICU, and level 2 trauma care.

Additional Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year prior to start.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines.
  • Fit mask (N95) certification, updated annually.
  • Drug screening within 30 days prior to start.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption.
  • COVID-19 vaccination documentation or declination on file.
  • Background checks including criminal, education verification, and federal/state registries.
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation, confidentiality, and code of conduct agreements.
  • Completion of competency exams and color blindness testing.
  • Two professional references required: one from current year and one within last two years, from supervisors or equivalent.
  • Work history verification for at least 2 years.
  • Attendance or acknowledgment of monthly department meetings.
