Job Opportunity: Histology Tech (Laboratory)
Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Details
- Perform frozen sections, immunohistochemistry (IHC), special stains, and recuts.
- Limited embedding duties on this shift.
- No weekend or on-call requirements.
- Floating within scope, but rare.
- Must have minimum 2 years of experience in the specialty. First-time travelers are not accepted.
- Clinical screening required to determine fit before final manager approval.
- Return to Office (RTO) maximum 7 days.
- Holiday work expectations:
- If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, traveler must work it.
- If 2 major holidays fall, traveler must work both.
- If 3 major holidays fall, traveler must work 2 of them.
- Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day.
- Full compliance with onboarding and orientation required to start on time; delays result in a 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedule.
- Local candidates accepted at the same rate.
- Orientation hours vary based on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment).
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Histology/Laboratory specialty.
- Prior travel experience is required (unit does not accept first-time travelers).
Certifications & Licenses
- State License verification required (if applicable).
- Allied Annual License Verification (if applicable) within 30 days prior to start.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accepted (AHA or ARC).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on specialty (check clinical guidelines).
- Other certifications (PALS, NRP, EFM) may be required depending on specialty area—refer to clinical guidelines.
Compliance & Screening Requirements
- Background check required within 30 days of start, including:
- County and nationwide criminal searches
- Sex offender registry
- Education verification of related degree
- Education verification required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start).
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; cannot start with results pending. Instant drug screen acceptable under certain conditions.
- Physical exam required within 12 months of start (not required by client but required by agency).
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months of start; TB questionnaire required annually.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or declination forms accepted:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or signed declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (strongly encouraged during flu season).
- Color Blind Testing required; alternative assessment available if needed.
Competency Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required for RNs and LVNs (agency requirement).
- Competency Exam required for Nursing and Allied Health (agency requirement).
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for certain specialties (not typically for Histology Tech).
Additional Notes
- Candidates must review and sign facility-specific policies such as Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy prior to start.
- References: 2 clinical references required by agency (not client).
- Skills checklist and work history verification required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start).
