Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Harvey, Illinois
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Floating: Required
• Charting system: Epic
• First-time travelers accepted
• Local candidates accepted
• Block scheduling not accommodated
• Return to office restrictions: Maximum 7 days

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience in Medical Surgical nursing or comparable/higher acuity
• Current Registered Nurse license valid in Illinois (primary source verification required within 30 days of assignment start)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA provider or AHA RQI only)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (AHA provider or AHA RQI only)
• Valid Driver’s License or State ID
• Negative 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start
• Physical exam within 1 year, indicating good health
• Fit mask test within 1 year (3M 1860 S/R, 1870+, or 9205+)
• Immunizations and/or proof of immunity (must be completed within 2 business days of contract signing):

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (declination allowed)
  • Varicella
• Flu seasonal vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for 2025-26 season
• Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification, and others as required
• Employment verification covering last 7 years, with explanations for gaps over 30 days
• Skills checklist updated annually for assigned and float units
• Two professional references required

Additional Requirements

• Illinois Department of Public Health fingerprinting and registry required if no Illinois state license is held
• Facility-specific orientation modules must be completed prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
• COVID-19 and Influenza religious or medical exemption forms available; must be submitted at least one week prior to documentation due date for approval
• Documentation such as photo for badge and employment application required

Notes

• Prior travel experience is not required
• Candidates with pending licenses are not accepted
• All certifications must be from approved providers; RQI certifications from non-AHA providers are not accepted
• Facility does not accept attestations in lieu of background checks except for pending education verification
• Fingerprinting must be completed in Illinois and within 10 days of signed authorization if required
