Registered Nurse – ER Holding

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (minimum new contracts and extensions)
Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 19:00–7:30)
Hours per Week: 48 hours


Unit Overview

  • Adult Admission Inpatient Unit (AAU) functions as an admission holding unit next to the Emergency Department.
  • Fast-paced environment with frequent patient turnover (admitting and transferring).
  • Patient ratio: 1 RN to 4-5 patients.
  • Unit has 17 beds plus up to 8 hall beds.
  • Patient population is diverse, covering all specialties except ICU-level patients.
  • Unit acuity includes Medical-Surgical, Medical-Surgical Telemetry, and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) levels.
  • RNs must be able to monitor and interpret telemetry and manage various medical equipment.
  • Relief charge nurse duties may be required.
  • Floating required within scope to ED admitted patients, ICU for sub-acute care assignments, and inpatient PCU areas.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New Mexico
  • Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Scheduling and Work Conditions

  • Guaranteed contracted hours per week (36/40/48), with facility allowed to call off up to 3 times during a 13-week assignment.
  • Block scheduling may be considered.
  • Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions: absences greater than 7 days require approval.
  • New travelers or those with 4 consecutive assignments or 1 year of travel work must take a 6-month break before returning.

Important Notes

  • No RQI certifications accepted for ACLS or BLS.
  • Candidates must be willing to float within scope to meet facility needs.
  • Relief charge nurse duties may be required.
  • The unit requires strong telemetry skills and ability to manage dysrhythmias.
  • The facility is not near public transportation; reliable transportation is necessary.
  • Fingerprinting cost is approximately $88.30, paid by the candidate with possible reimbursement.
  • Candidates must complete a traveler compliance form and review a welcome packet prior to start.

This position is ideal for RNs with telemetry experience who thrive in a fast-paced, acute care admission unit and are comfortable with floating and relief charge responsibilities. First-time travelers are welcome.
