Registered Nurse – Dialysis (Travel/Contract)

Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday, 5:30 AM – 10:30 PM (8, 10, or combination of 8- and 12-hour shifts)
  • Every other weekend required, same hours as weekdays
  • Occasional Sundays due to holidays
• Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
• Float Requirement: Must float to all other dialysis locations
• Unit: 24-chair dialysis unit with acute 8-station coverage
• Patient Population: Outpatient chronic and acute dialysis

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 1 year of dialysis nursing experience within the last year
• Experience in an outpatient setting
• Experience in charge nurse roles
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Administration of blood and blood products
• Ability to cannulate AV fistula
• Experience with tunneled and non-tunneled catheters
• Knowledge of blood leak detector operation
• Familiarity with blood pump alarms
• Understanding of temperature alarms
• Awareness and management of air emboli
• Proficiency in cardiac arrest response and CPR

Travel Experience

• First-time travelers accepted
• Local candidates must live more than 75 miles away

Health and Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete the following within 5 days of contract signing and maintain as required:

• Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
• Fit mask test (annual) with acceptable mask types or PAPR if failed
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year) or TB questionnaire annually
• Immunizations or positive titers for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (Surface AB and AG titers required for dialysis)
  • Varicella
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
• Drug screening within 30 days of start
• Snellen eye exam (within 1 year)
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Background and Verification

• Government-issued photo ID required
• 7-year criminal background check including felony checks, SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, education verification, and eligibility to work in the U.S.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and monthly thereafter
• Foreign education equivalency evaluation if applicable
• Employment verification of at least two past employments
• References: 2 references within 3 years (required for agency direct hires)
• Skills checklist updated annually

Facility-Specific Requirements

• Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background)
• Completion of facility-specific pre-employment compliance attestations and new hire forms
• Fingerprinting and additional background checks may be required for certain units (mental health, behavioral health, home health aide, long-term care)

Summary

This travel contract RN position in dialysis requires a minimum of 1 year dialysis experience with charge nurse skills, flexibility to float to other dialysis locations, and the ability to work varied shifts including weekends. Candidates must meet comprehensive health, background, and certification requirements to ensure compliance and patient safety. First-time travelers are welcome.
