Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical - Neuro Registered Nurse

Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work on a busy Neuro Medical-Surgical unit caring for patients with CVA/TIA, seizures, encephalopathy, weakness, and stroke rule-outs.
  • EMR system used: Cerner
  • Medication system: Omnicell
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6 or 1:7
  • Float to other units as needed
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (approximately 2 weekends per month)
  • Orientation offered bi-weekly
  • No holiday time off allowed during specified holidays; holiday time off requests may be addressed onsite after assignment start

Shift Details

  • Day shift: 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
  • 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (36 hours/week)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
  • Minimum of 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with recent Med Surg experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to pass EKG testing before start date (required for all Med-Surg nurses regardless of subspecialty)
  • Valid driver’s license or state ID (color copy, current)
  • Background check completed within 45 days of start, including 7-year SSN trace, national and state criminal checks, sex offender registries, and abuse registries
  • Photo for badge: passport style, solid background, no filters or facial piercings
  • Completion of onboarding attestation and review of onboarding documents prior to start
  • MMR documentation (measles, mumps, rubella) required with vaccine or positive titer proof
  • Hepatitis B vaccine series, titer, or declination documentation required
  • Varicella vaccine or positive titer documentation required
  • TB questionnaire required
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification preferred but not required
  • Must comply with holiday time off restrictions during specified holidays
