Registered Nurse (Med/Surg) - Contract Position
Location
- Grand Island, Nebraska

Shift and Hours
- 12-hour night shifts
- Typical shifts: 1845-0715 or 0645-1915
- Approximately 36 hours per week
Unit Details
- 32-bed acute care unit combining Med/Surg, PCU, and ICU levels of care
- Nurse-to-patient ratio:
- 1:5 on Med/Surg
- 1:4 on PCU
- Floating to PCU required if comfortable and qualified (1 year recent PCU experience preferred)
Job Responsibilities
- Perform patient assessments and reassessments based on presenting problems
- Identify nursing priorities and desired patient outcomes
- Integrate patient care plans according to diagnosis and age-specific needs
- Ensure patient safety including surgical procedure verification, aseptic technique, positioning, and equipment use
- Execute therapeutic and supportive interventions consistent with perioperative procedures
- Provide patient and family education tailored to identified needs
- Evaluate patient responses and progress toward outcomes
- Incorporate cultural considerations into care delivery
- Document patient care accurately and timely
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members
- Facilitate patient transitions to next level of care
- Support team members and serve as a role model
- Participate in ongoing learning and self-development
- Use equipment such as wound vacs
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Nebraska
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Experience in an Acute Care setting
- Experience with total joint replacements and abdominal surgical procedures
- PCU (Progressive Care Unit) experience
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Orientation and Training
- 4-hour general orientation for travelers
- Shadow a floor nurse for the remainder of the first afternoon
- One shift orientation with floor staff before working independently
Dress Code
- Pewter grey or light turquoise scrubs
Additional Notes
- Recent EPIC experience is preferred
- Candidates should live within 50 miles of the location or be willing to relocate
- Willingness and ability to float to PCU is required
