Registered Nurse – Float Psychiatric (Night Shift)

Location: Holyoke, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (11:00 pm – 7:30 am), includes every other weekend and every other holiday
Hours per Week: 40 hours (8-hour shifts)

Job Summary

Join a newly opening behavioral health hospital as a Registered Nurse providing direct and indirect care to psychiatric patients. This role involves working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans grounded in trauma-informed recovery principles. You will maintain a safe therapeutic environment and may be required to float to similar or lower acuity units as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect nursing care to patients and families in an inpatient psychiatric setting.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic milieu based on core behavioral health principles.
• Collaborate with the treatment team to develop, implement, and document patient goals and interventions.
• Float to similar or lower acuity units when necessary.
• Take charge responsibilities during shifts (charge duties included in the role).
• Work every other weekend and holiday as scheduled.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts.
• Minimum of 1 year of psychiatric nursing experience within the last year.
• Experience in an inpatient psychiatric setting.
• Experience in charge nurse roles.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Experience in psychiatric and substance use inpatient care preferred.
• Training or experience in restraint reduction, de-escalation, and crisis intervention preferred.
• Knowledge of behavioral health and substance abuse treatment modalities.
• Familiarity with trauma-informed recovery models of care.

Additional Information

• No requests for time off (RTO) can be approved during this 13-week assignment.
• The role requires working every other weekend and holiday.
• Charge nurse duties are expected but do not carry additional pay multiplier.
