Assignment Length

Unit / Setting

• Rural hospital
• Unit MedSurg- AC3
• 9 beds on Ortho
• 13 beds on Inpatient Rehab
• If MedSurg census does not support, the nurse may be assigned IRF patients

Required Qualifications

• BLS
• RN license
• Tele
• IVs
• Foley catheters
• Dressing changes

Preferred

• Ortho experience

Patient Population

• Total knees, hips, and shoulders
• CVAs
• Encephalopathy
• Lumbar fusions
• Clean medical-surgical patients when bed needs necessitate

Staffing / Workflow

• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 on MS and 1:6 on IRF
• Charge nurse on both units for each shift; charge nurse takes patient assignments
• PCT assigned to each night rotation to assist with ADLs and vital signs
• RT handles neb tx and CPAP setup
• Tele patients are monitored off-site by monitor techs
• Strips are run once per shift and reviewed/placed in the record
• All RNs have passed a basic rhythm course

Schedule

• Days, 7a-7p
• Every other weekend required
• Holidays are rotated
• No self-scheduling

Floating

• May float to another MS unit with similar staffing ratios

Orientation

• 3 days of classroom orientation
• 2 precepted shifts on the floor

Dress Code

• Navy blue scrubs; not provided
