Job Details

• Specialty: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Day and Evening shifts available
• Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
• Work Environment: Level I Trauma Center, Pediatric Certified by State, Comprehensive Stroke Center
• Unit Details:

  • 20 beds total (5 Trauma, 10 Observation, hallway beds)
  • Fast Track area with 6 beds
  • Separate triage area with 3 beds
  • Security present 24/7 within ER
• Patient Ratios:

  • 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio in zones
  • 1:6 in Fast Track
  • 1:5 in Observation
  • 1:1 in ICU/Trauma
• Common Patient Diagnoses: Trauma, sepsis, chest pain, shortness of breath, strokes (including TPA administration)
• Common Drips: All common drips used in Level I trauma ERs
• Staffing: Both ED physicians and mid-level providers staffed; charge nurse present on each shift
• Support Staff: Nurse aides, EMTs, paramedics, and patient sitters available with ratios of 1:10 in Observation and 1:20 in main ED
• Telemetry: Tele/Monitor techs present; RNs required to read and interpret cardiac strips
• Floating: Required to float to Observation unit and a freestanding ER at least once a week
• Orientation: 1 week onboarding, plus 2 shifts at one hospital and 1 shift at another facility
• Work Pace: Fast paced, high acuity environment

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) preferred but not required

Required Qualifications

• Recent Level 1 or Level 2 trauma experience required
• Valid driver’s license required at time of application (used to verify candidate is within 50 miles radius)
• Must comply with fingernail policy: artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove will result in contract termination
• Pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% (open book, resources provided; failure results in termination)
• Candidates may not currently be employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system within a 50-mile radius

Scheduling and Requirements

• Shifts available: 07:00-19:00, 09:00-21:00, 11:00-23:00, 15:00-03:00, 19:00-07:00
• Weekend and holiday work requirements vary based on department needs
• Return to work (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed
