Overview

• Travel contract for a PCU RN in Burien, Washington.
• Contract length: 13 weeks.
• Shift: Nights, 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week.
• Orientation/education hours are not guaranteed during the first 2 weeks of the assignment; expect 25+ hours.

Required Qualifications

• 2 full years of PCU experience.
• Active BLS.
• Active ACLS.
• Active NIHSS.
• WA License.

Unit Details

• Unit: PCU
• Beds: 21
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:3 for PCU level patients; 1:4-5 for tele/medical level patients.
• Common diagnoses/types of patients: DKA, ETOH/other drug withdrawal, respiratory failure, COVID, surgical complications, heart failure.
• Required skills: cath lab recovery/sheath pulls, drip management, BiPAP/high flow, wound care, IV placement, central line management, foley placement/care.
• RNs are required to titrate drips.
• Common titratable/set-rate drips: insulin, low dose pressors such as levophed/dopamine, cardioreactive drips such as amiodarone, diuretic drips such as bumex.
• Charge nurse coverage: 24 hours; house supervisor coverage: 1500-0700, 24 hours on weekends.
• Nurse aides are on the unit, ratio 1:8-10.
• RT equipment includes BiPAP, CPAP, and high flow.
• Remote monitor techs are on the unit; RNs read and review strips.
• Unit-specific orientation: 1 12-hour shift.

Schedule and Logistics

• Weekend requirement: every other.
• Holiday requirement: yes.
• Call/standby: no.
• Floating: as needed to all inpatient units and ED boarding, including Med/surg/tele at 1:4-5 ratio, according to hospital needs.
• First to float within Region I if needed.

Float Scope

• Primary facility is St Anne Hospital.
• May float throughout Region One: St. Francis Hospital – Federal Way, Virginia Mason Medical Center – Seattle, and St. Anne Hospital – Burien.
