Position Overview

• Specialty: LDRP RN
• Location: Bismarck, ND
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Rotational 7a-7p and 7p-7a shifts, schedule made 6 weeks in advance with block scheduling
• Weekend Requirement: Every third weekend
• Holiday Requirement: As needed
• Orientation: 2 shifts of 12 hours each on the unit

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring (advanced preferred)
• STABLE certification

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of experience in LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum)
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required; first-time travelers are welcome

Skills and Competencies

• Must have EPIC electronic medical record experience
• Ability to titrate drips (pitocin, magnesium sulfate, occasional insulin drips)
• Ability to scrub in for surgeries preferred
• Comfortable managing a variety of obstetric patients including:

  • Obstetric, L&D, antepartum, triage, postpartum
  • High-risk pregnancy conditions such as MgSO4 therapy, preeclampsia, gestational hypertension, gestational diabetes
  • Postpartum vaginal and C-section deliveries, hysterectomy, bladder repairs, mastectomies
• Ability to read telemetry strips in Phase 1 recovery for C-section patients

Unit Details

• Beds: 7 Labor & Delivery, 12 Postpartum, 8 Surgical
• OR Suites: 1 dedicated C-section OR, 2 GYN surgical ORs
• Triage: 3 bay triage averaging 17 patients/month
• Annual births: Approximately 643 per year
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • L&D: 1:1 to 1:2
  • Postpartum couplets: 1:2 to 1:3
  • Surgical/medical postpartum: 1:3 to 1:4
• Charge nurse present on each shift and takes patient assignments (travelers do not serve as charge)
• Support staff includes 1 OB scrub tech (M-F days), unit clerk, and occasional nurse techs (nursing students)
• OB and Neonatologist on call 24/7; Neonatal Nurse Practitioner onsite overnight
• Anesthesia available in-house 24/7
• Respiratory therapy equipment available; RNs troubleshoot supplemental oxygen as needed
• Remote telemetry capable unit with monitor tech support; RNs place telemetry patches and read strips in recovery phase

• Return to Orientation (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start
