ICU Registered Nurse (RN) - 2E SICU

Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts, rotating day (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM) and night (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36

Unit Overview

• 16 beds plus 2 procedural beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • 1:2 standard ICU patients
  • 1:1 for higher acuity patients (e.g., CRRT, immediate post-op heart patients, MTP, OPO)
  • 1:3 for med-surg/floor status patients
• Patient population includes cardiovascular surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, AAA), trauma (level 2 trauma center), NSTEMI/STEMI, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, ENT surgery, and other surgical ICU patients
• Tertiary care center for complex, high-acuity patients

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license appropriate for Wisconsin
• ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), and NIHSS certifications required
• Preferred certification: TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
• Experience with high-acuity ICU patients and relevant patient populations is required
• Experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, and ECMO is not required but highly desirable
• Ability to titrate drips including epinephrine, norepinephrine, propofol, precedex, vasopressin, dobutamine, heparin, insulin, dopamine, neosynephrine, and milrinone

Clinical Environment & Support

• Intensivist coverage 24/7 in-house
• Respiratory therapists available 24/7 with full range of equipment (ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, Vapotherm, etc.)
• No telemetry/monitor techs on unit; RNs responsible for reading and documenting their own telemetry rhythm strips (GE monitors)
• Charge nurse present every shift; typically does not take patient assignments unless census requires
• Nursing assistants available during day shift (one per unit); typically no NA on night shift

Scheduling & Work Requirements

• Self-scheduling model for staff; agency nurses scheduled to meet unit needs and approved time off
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend or more if willing
• Holiday requirement: every other holiday or more if willing
• Call/standby only during scheduled shifts if census is low (per agency allowed hours)
• Floating: may be required to float to MICU or serve as patient observer within hospital if not needed in SICU or MICU

Orientation & Onboarding

• One day system onboarding and computer-based training (CBT)
• Two orientation shifts on unit with skills checklist completion required

Additional Notes

• Clean and professional dress code; no specific scrub color required
• Clinicians who have previously worked at this facility must have a minimum 6-month gap before reapplying
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility

Experience Requirements

• Minimum ICU RN experience with high-acuity patients (exact years not specified, but must meet or exceed facility expectations for tertiary care ICU)
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
