Assignment Details
- 20-bed unit, all private and all monitored with nurse
- 12-hour nights
- Every other weekend
- Every other holiday
- Float to every level of care
- Travelers are expected to take a full team
- No self-scheduling for non AHU Mission Partners; no blocking
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- CVICU (2 years of experience)
- CVICU experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- Experience with swan-ganz catheters
- Experience with central line management
- Experience with arterial lines
- Experience with temporary pacemakers
- Experience with intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP)
- Experience with Impella
- Experience with ECMO
- Experience with CRRT
Preferred
- ACLS
- CCRN
- More than 3-5 years of CVICU experience
- Experience with immediate post-op patients
- Experience with VAD
- Experience with transplant
Unit Clinical Profile
- Patient population includes post open heart surgical patients, CABG, valves, CABG/Valve, dissections, AAA, vascular procedures, carotids, post cardiovascular procedures, STEMI, unstable angina, unstable N-STEMI, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, targeted temperature management (hypothermia), transcutaneous pacing, transvenous pacing, severe heart failure, TAVRs, cardiac related events requiring ICU care, ventilated patients, overflow patients from other ICUs including COVID patients
- Soon to come: post VAD placement and post heart transplant patients
- Specialty intervention equipment includes IABPs, Impellas, Swan Ganz, ECMO, external pacemakers, and CRRT
- Lines used include PICC, midlines, CVC, Swans, and arterial lines (radial and femoral)
- Uses ventilators, CPAP, BPAP, heated high flow, and nitric oxide
- Philips monitoring is used
- RNs are expected to read and interpret strips
- Charge nurses are present 24/7 and may take teams at times
- House supervisor is present 24/7
- PCTs are available
- Respiratory therapists are available 24/7
- CV APNs/PAs and CCS APNs/PAs are available most of the time, with providers on call
Dress Code
- No particular scrub color required
- Scrubs must be appropriate in appearance, clean, and not too tight or falling off
- Scrubs are not provided
