Location: Marquette, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Facility Overview

  • 225-bed specialty care hospital
  • Services include Heart & Vascular Institute, Cancer Center, Brain & Spine, Rehab, Behavioral Health, Digestive Health, Bariatric Medicine & Weight Management, Women's Health, Pediatrics
  • Trauma Level 2
  • Patient population: Adult and geriatric (ages 18 - 125)
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) system: Cerner

Position Details

  • Department: Acute Medical/Surgical
  • Shift: 7 PM – 7 AM
  • Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36
  • Weekend Hours: Rotating
  • Patient Ratios: 5:1 to 6:1
  • Float Requirements: Occasional to similar units
  • Equipment used: Telemetry monitors, Baxter IV pumps, Kangaroo pump, Bladder scanner, Dynamaps

Required Qualifications

  • Discipline: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Specialty: Medical/Surgical
  • Minimum Years of Experience: 2+ years in Medical/Surgical nursing
  • Required Certifications: ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • Required License: Registered Nurse License (Michigan)
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required
  • Must have strong critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action

Additional Information

  • Candidates must be located 60 miles or greater from the facility to be considered
  • Dress Code: Scrubs in Galaxy Blue (Navy also acceptable)
  • Fingernails must be clean, not excessive in length, and comply with Hand Hygiene Policy
  • Tattoos that may be offensive must be covered
  • Excessive jewelry is not allowed

Cons

I have never worked anywhere that runs like this facility. They have very limited resources in the upper peninsula. The staffing is always short. The nurses normally do a lot of tech work daily very unorganized difficult to complete tasks because of the way the unit is run. The people are great, but I don’t see any improvement here for a very long time
