Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Patient ratio: 1-2 couplets (mother and baby pairs)
  • Work areas include Antepartum, Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Postpartum (LDRP), and Mother/Baby units
  • Occasional floating to Postpartum unit within scope of practice
  • Weekend requirement: Minimum 3 weekend shifts per month (Saturday/Sunday only; Friday not counted as weekend)
  • No on-call required
  • Not open to block scheduling

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Arizona
  • Minimum 3 years of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring
  • C-EFM (Certified Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
  • RNC-OB (Registered Nurse Certified in Obstetrics)
  • Experience with high-risk antepartum cases and facility with >300 births/month
  • Skills such as assisting with amniocentesis, triage of obstetrical patients, spiral electrode placement, circumcision care, car seat education, metabolic screening, neonatal abstinence syndrome care, phototherapy, PCA use, cervical cerclage, D&C, tubal ligation, and Level III L&D experience

Key Skills and Responsibilities

  • Assist with sterile speculum exams (effacement, dilation, station, presentation)
  • Perform Non-Stress Tests (NST) and electronic fetal monitoring (external and internal) including IUPC placement and calibration
  • Recognize and treat abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
  • Administer blood and blood products
  • Start and maintain peripheral IVs; use infusion pumps and drips
  • Medication administration and monitoring
  • Postpartum care including hemorrhage/shock management, epidural/general anesthesia monitoring, and pain assessment
  • Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, forceps/vacuum extraction, and C-section circulation and recovery
  • Neonatal care in delivery room including cord care, newborn assessment, hypoglycemia management, infant identification, and discharge teaching to parents
  • Isolation precautions, PPE use, and vaccine administration

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within one year confirming good health and no physical limitations
  • Fit mask test within one year, updated annually (can be completed onsite)
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (vaccination series, positive titer, or declination)
  • Negative TB test (Qgold or Tspot) within one year; chest X-ray and TB questionnaire if prior positive test
  • Negative drug screen within 30 days of start (specific panels required)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)

Background and Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks within 1 year including SS trace, 7-year county, national criminal, and FACIS III
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG exclusion checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification (diploma or official transcripts) required prior to start
  • Primary source verification of state RN license and certifications within 15 days prior to start
  • Employment application and work history verification covering last 7 years, including explanation of gaps over 30 days
  • Skills checklist current within one year
  • References required but do not prevent start if pending; must be collected promptly after start
  • Candidate must complete facility-specific orientation acknowledgments and confidentiality forms
  • Must watch and provide proof of completion of facility’s New Employee Orientation video before starting

  • Blackout dates for time off requests: May 22-25, July 3-6, September 4-7
  • No block scheduling available
  • Candidate statement letter required as part of background check process
