Job Opportunity: IMC Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking an experienced IMC/Stepdown/PCU Registered Nurse to provide care in an acute care hospital setting with a Level I trauma center and Magnet designation. The role involves telemetry and stepdown patient care with a focus on cardiac, neurological, respiratory, and post-surgical management.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of PCU (Progressive Care Unit) experience within the last year
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • NIHSS certification
  • Use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Post cardiac angiogram, MI, cardiac catheterization, and surgery care (pre/post)
  • Sheath removal and TR Band management
  • Pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
  • Accessing ports, arterial line management, PICC line management
  • Procedural sedation administration
  • Titration of cardiac drips
  • Neurological care including craniotomy, CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury
  • Orthopedic experience including ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, and total joint replacements
  • Plastic surgery care including skin grafts and surgical drains
  • Care of ventilated patients

Clinical Skills & Experience Requirements

  • Work Setting Experience: Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown units
  • Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response:
    • Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
    • Telemetry monitoring on unit
  • Gastrointestinal: Feeding tube care and management
  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy:
    • Blood product administration
    • Central line and peripheral line care and management
    • Starting IVs
  • Medication Management:
    • Heparin protocols
    • Management and titration of vasoactive drips
    • PCA administration
  • Respiratory:
    • Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
    • External CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
    • ABG interpretation, nasal cannula, oxygen masks, portable oxygen tanks
    • Non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy care
  • Professional Skills: Isolation precautions, wound care including wound vac
  • Preferred Experience: Cerner electronic health record, teaching hospital, Level I trauma center

Work Environment & Additional Details

  • Patient Ratios/Daily Caseload: Not specified
  • Floating: May float within scope as needed
  • Block Scheduling: Possible, to be discussed with manager
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
  • Call Requirements: No on-call required
  • Guaranteed Hours: Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay; on-call shifts count as called-off shifts
  • Dress Code: Any solid color scrubs
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Parking: Permit required, no cost

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Checks: Comprehensive background checks within 30 days of start, including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender, and federal exclusions
  • Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required
  • Competency Exam: Required for all clinical candidates
  • Photo for Badge: Color photo required before start
  • Code of Conduct: Must review and sign within 7 days of contract signing
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by appropriate provider
    • Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
    • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
    • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
  • State-Specific Checks: Illinois Department of Corrections inmate search, Most Wanted search, and other state registry checks within 30 days of start
  • References: Two professional references required for travel and acute care candidates
  • Skills Checklist: Required for clinical candidates
