ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Odessa, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 18:30–7:00)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Description
- Start date preferred within the next 3-5 weeks
- Must be willing to float to Medical-Surgical/Telemetry units if ICU census is low (patient ratios 5-6:1)
Required Certifications & Training
- ACLS (AHA only; Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted)
- BLS (AHA only; Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted)
- TNCC or TCAR (Trauma Nursing Core Course or equivalent)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required annually for ICU, MS, and MS/Tele RNs)
- EKG course completion (can be provided if needed)
- 6 hours total of Stroke education (can be provided if needed)
- Pass/Fail Testing on EKG and Medication (Pharmacology exam onsite at orientation; 3 attempts allowed)
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Minimum 1 year of recent ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry units
Compliance & Facility Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific documents including:
- Notice of Employment
- Standards of Conduct and Behavior
- Dress Code Policy Acknowledgement
- Agency Checklist
- COVID Declination (if applicable)
- HIPAA and Fair Warning Quiz Modules (complete within 72 hours of signing)
- Orientation and Safety Training Modules (complete within 72 hours of signing)
- Annual TB Questionnaire
- Required to complete various facility forms prior to start (health record, code of conduct, confidentiality, security agreements, orientation updates)
- References: 2 required within 3 years of start
- Resume or employment application copy required
- Skills checklist updated annually
Additional Notes
- Candidate must have a plan to complete drug testing within facility-required timeframe (within 72 hours of contract signing)
- Pharmacology competency exam must meet or exceed passing score
- Floating to other units may require adjusted patient ratios (5-6:1)
- Orientation includes a pharmacology exam with study materials provided onsite

Pro RT environment, working with the unit staff and department staff. Charting is easy cerner. If you know your job you will be fine.
Cons
Scheduling is very difficult for travelers. Full time is 3&4, weekends are alternating Saturday and Sunday. Bureaucracy issues. Housing is difficult to find and expensive due to oil city. In the NICU you are on your own not many staff or team leads crossed trained. There is some disorganization.
