Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Job Description

• Work in Skilled Nursing and Rehab Units within a Long-Term Care (LTC) facility, functioning similarly to a Med-Surg environment.
• Direct patient care with ratios up to 1 nurse per 20 residents; average daily census is 72 residents.
• Shift includes every other weekend rotation; weekend work required upon center request.
• Must have IV Certification before starting, along with BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required.
• First-time travelers are accepted.
• Dementia training or experience highly recommended.
• Strong Med/Surg and acute care experience helpful but not mandatory.
• Excellent customer service skills required; close collaboration with CNAs and HCAs expected.
• Use of special lifting equipment is part of the job.
• Charting system: PowerChart.
• Attire: Any shade of blue scrubs.
• Free parking available; no mileage reimbursement.
• No on-call requirements.
• Locals are accepted.
• Must have license in hand at time of submission; proof of license required. Pending licenses are not accepted.
• Restrictions on time off: Requests for time off must be approved at submission and cannot be approved after offer. Not all holidays can be taken off.
• Call-outs require more than 24 hours' notice.

• Provides specialized medical and rehabilitation care to dementia and surgical patients, including IV medications and wound care.

Required Certifications & Compliance

• Licenses: Must have a valid nursing license for Illinois.
• Certifications:

  • IV Certification (required before starting)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• Competency Exams:

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (Aya requirement)
  • Unit-specific competency exam required
• Background Checks:

  • Comprehensive background check within 1 year of start, including SS trace, county searches for last 7 years, nationwide sex offender check.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
• Health Requirements:

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually.
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B (declination accepted), Varicella.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines.
  • 9-panel drug screen within last 12 months (instant tests accepted).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required.
  • COVID-19 vaccination required unless approved medical or religious exemption; if exempt, twice-weekly COVID testing required.
• Documentation:

  • Photo for badge required prior to start.
  • References: 2 professional references within 2 years.
  • Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist within 1 year of start.

Additional Notes

• Rehab experience with strong Med/Surg and acute care background is beneficial.
• Dementia care experience highly recommended.
• Excellent customer service and teamwork with CNAs/HCAs essential.
• Must be able to work every other weekend and accommodate shift rotations.
• No on-call duties.

This position is ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of experience who are comfortable working in a skilled nursing and rehab setting with a focus on dementia and surgical patient care. First-time travel nurses are welcome.
