Job Opportunity: Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Must have 2-3 years of Pediatric Post Anesthesia Care and Pre Testing experience.
- Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, no weekends or holidays.
- Shift start times vary between 6:00 AM and 11:00 AM.
- No on-call duties.
- Missed shifts due to call outs must be made up at the end of the contract, with extra days added if needed.
Required Qualifications
- Active District of Columbia nursing license required prior to start. Applicants without a DC license will not be considered.
- Pediatric Registered Nurse specialty experience: minimum 3 years (defaulting to the higher end of 2-3 years).
- Certifications (must be current and valid, no proof of course completion letters accepted):
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, required based on specialty/unit
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only, required based on specialty/unit
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA/AAP only, required based on specialty/unit
- Chemotherapy certification if applicable
- NURSYS verification required.
- Pass/Fail Medication Calculation Exam at orientation (must score 84% or higher, 2 attempts allowed).
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required.
- Color Blind Testing required (can be completed online or as part of physical).
- Competency Exam required.
Licensure & Documentation Requirements
- Must hold an active DC RN license before start.
- Primary source verification of license required.
- Background checks within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years.
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Education verification required (transcript/diploma accepted if education verification is pending).
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Two professional references dated within the past two years required.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 30 days of start, including latex allergy information.
- Fit test for N95 mask within 1 year of start, updated annually. PAPRs accepted.
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years (TD and DTap not accepted).
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 60 days of start or chest x-ray if previously positive.
- TB questionnaire required regardless of TB result.
- Immunizations or positive quantitative titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (series and quantitative surface antibody titer)
- Varicella
- 10-panel drug screen including marijuana within 30 days of start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
- COVID vaccine or declination required for tracking purposes.
- Latex questionnaire accepted if latex allergy info is not on physical exam.
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific modules (Cornerstone Modules) prior to start, including COVID-19 vaccine training and immunization best practices.
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required.
- Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing for medication calculation required.
- Photo for badge must be submitted immediately after signing.
- Medication study guide provided prior to start for orientation test preparation.
- Emergency contact information must be completed.
- Additional facility-specific forms required if declining Hep B, flu vaccine, or requesting exemptions.
Additional Notes
- No background/license hits or exemptions accepted.
- Modules are not billable and must be completed within the first week of assignment.
- Clearance must be obtained prior to reporting for the first day.
