Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse
Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work schedule options: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts (overtime after 48 hours)
- Every Other Week (EOW) schedule, float, and holiday shifts required
- Must be proficient in EPIC electronic health record system (no exceptions)
- Unit includes 15-bed OBED/Antepartum (caring for pregnancies >20 weeks), 11 labor beds, 2 operating rooms, and 2-bed PACU
- Radius rule: Candidates with permanent address within 50 miles of facility will not be considered
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
- Certifications required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- AWHONN (Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit test for N95 mask within 1 year, updated annually (PAPR not allowed)
- Immunizations and titers required within 10 years or valid declination forms:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for Mother Baby, L&D, Nursery, ER units)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-Spot) within 1 year; annual TB testing required
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (or approved exemption with mask-wearing)
- COVID-19 vaccine preferred but not required; documentation collected if available
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
Background and Compliance
- 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
- National fingerprinting required (Virginia VSP National Criminal Background Check) effective 1/1/2026
- Employment application, proof of 2 references, and unit-specific skills checklist required
- Primary source verification of state license required
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and safety acknowledgments
