Job Opportunity: Lactation Consultant (Postpartum RN)

Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Description

  • Provide postpartum nursing care with a focus on lactation support and newborn care.
  • Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 3 patients.
  • Must be skilled in newborn assessments, vital signs, glucose screening, baths, complex feeding, phototherapy, and medication administration.
  • Experience with magnesium, insulin, PCA/PCEA, and heparin infusions required.
  • Floating within the hospital required; no floating to sister hospitals.
  • Weekend work is required unless otherwise posted.
  • Block scheduling accommodations generally not available.
  • Locals accepted; first-time travel nurses are not accepted.
  • Call is not required.
  • Guaranteed hours may be adjusted based on census; possible on-call in 4-hour increments up to one shift in a 2-week cycle.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Washington.
  • Minimum 2 years of postpartum nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Lactation RN experience.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program).
  • IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant).
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam signed by a physician within 1 year of start.
  • Fit mask test (N95 or PAPR) required.
  • Immunizations or titers required for:
    • TB (negative PPD or chest x-ray)
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella (vaccines or titer; history of disease not accepted at this facility)
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer or documented vaccine series with positive serology; declination allowed with waiver)
    • Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Influenza vaccination or approved medical exemption/declination with education module completion during flu season
    • COVID vaccination or declination documentation for tracking

Additional Requirements

  • Photo for badge (DMV style, no selfies) due Monday prior to start.
  • Completion of facility-specific agreements and checklists prior to start.
  • Umbilical Cord Blood Collection Training required for Labor & Delivery RNs.
  • Performance evaluation may be requested at assignment end.
  • Radiation badges are not provided for new candidates; must be supplied by facility if needed.
