Unit

  • Med Surg
  • 38 beds

Schedule

  • Days
  • 3x12 hour shifts
  • 36 hours per week
  • No self-scheduling for travel RNs
  • Blocked scheduling can be accommodated at times
  • Weekend and holiday coverage as needed
  • Call or standby may be required for low census or cancellations

Required Qualifications

  • RN
  • BLS
  • 1 year of Med Surg experience
  • Must be able to take a 1:6 patient ratio
  • Must have experience with EPIC documentation
  • Must be able to work the shift submitted for
  • Must be able to titrate drips

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPI

Unit Details

  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6 on days and nights; must be able to take 6
  • High turnover on days
  • Common patient types include adults and possibly older teens
  • Common diagnoses include pneumonia, UTI, dehydration, influenza, alcohol withdrawal, respiratory virus, orthopedic surgical patients, general surgery patients, spinal surgery patients, and urology patients
  • Cardiac tech is available 24/7
  • RN is not required to read own telemetry strips
  • Nursing supervisor is available 24/7
  • CNA support is available
  • Respiratory therapy support is available 24/7
  • RT equipment includes trachs, CPAP for OSA, BiPAP, and high flow
  • Floating may be to IMCU for Med Surg assignments
  • Navy blue scrubs
  • Unit orientation is 1.5 shifts

Additional Notes

  • First-time travelers are accepted
  • Bedside shift report, teamwork, and proactive patient rounding are expected
