Registered Nurse – Endoscopy

Location: Bakersfield, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Work 12-hour shifts covering all three phases of endoscopy procedures.
• Call rotation required, including weekends and holidays.
• May float between two nearby campuses (7 minutes apart) within the Endoscopy/GI lab only.
• No block scheduling; varied shift start times.
• OR scrubs provided.

Department Details

• Second busiest Endoscopy department in the region with 2 procedure suites.
• 5 to 25 procedures per day including EGDs, colonoscopies, ERCPs, bronchoscopies, EUS, and PEG.
• Charge nurse present every weekday shift.
• Techs assist physicians with all procedures except bronchoscopies and manage equipment and scope care.

Required Qualifications

• California RN license required.
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience in Endoscopy.
• Experience with procedural sedation is required.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• Call experience required.
• Ability to respond to call within 30 minutes.

Responsibilities

• Recover patients from MAC sedation and procedural sedation; intubated patients transferred to PACU.
• Circulate during MAC cases; act as circulator or sedator during procedural sedation.
• Perform bedside procedures in ER and ICU as needed.

Call and Scheduling Details

• Weekend call for RNs: typically one 24-hour shift (7 AM to 7 AM).
• Holiday call: expected to cover one major and one minor holiday per contract.
• Call is shared and rotated among staff.

Orientation

• Department-specific orientation lasting 2-3 days, adjusted based on experience and comfort level.

Additional Notes

• No respiratory therapy equipment management required.
• Floating limited to Endoscopy/GI lab between two campuses only.
