Registered Nurse – Emergency Department

Location: Farmington, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Facility Overview

Emergency Department with 48 beds plus flex space
Trauma Level III facility
Patient ratios: 4:1 in Main ED, 6:1 in Fast Track
Patient population includes ESRD, Cirrhosis, COPD, Psychiatric cases
Equipment includes Zoll Defibrillator, Level One Blood Transfuser, QinFlow Blood Warmer, Hospira Plum360, Freestyle and iStat POC devices, Ultrasound Guided IV
Electronic Health Record system: Cerner
Team nursing and Pod System model
Social Worker assigned to the department
Unit Educator available

Position Details

Role: Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Medicine specialty
Number of openings: 1
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
Weekend requirement: Minimum of two weekends per schedule
Call requirements: None
Float requirements: None

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in New Mexico
Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Current certifications from the American Heart Association:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
Experience with:
- Trauma care
- Stroke management
- STEMI (ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction) care
- Sepsis management
- Moderate sedation

Skills & Experience

Must have experience with:
- Trauma care
- Stroke management
- STEMI (ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction)
- Sepsis management
- Moderate sedation
Preferred: 2 years of Emergency Department experience
Common diagnoses treated include:
- End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)
- Substance Abuse Disorders
- Psychological Disorders
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
- Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
- Abdominal Pain
- Chest Pain

Additional Information

Submittal requirements include resume, competency exam, skills checklist, and screening questions
Located in a scenic area with access to outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, and sightseeing
No prior travel experience required for this position

Pros

Unit is comprised of many travelers. Core staff and travelers have all been fantastic! The unit is set up quite well to manage the surges of patients. It is the only main hospital around so it can definitely provide good experience. Most of the providers I've encountered over the last couple months actually listen to the nurses and are easy to work with.

Cons

It is definitely busy before the size of the town. I can't say I have any other cons.
