Job Details

  • Unit: Float Pool Pod A ICU
  • Shift: Weekends required minimum every other weekend; may exceed to meet unit needs
  • Start Date: As soon as possible
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1 year ICU experience
  • First Timers: Accepted
  • On-Call: Not required
  • Floating: Required to float between like units; may float to Providence Mission Laguna
  • Block Schedule: May be accommodated at manager’s discretion
  • Local Radius: 50 miles
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off once per two-week pay period
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Parking: Free

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation)
  • BLS (American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (updated every 2 years)
  • Additional certifications may be required based on unit and clinical track (e.g., PALS, NRP, Chemotherapy, EFM)

Licensure

  • Active Registered Nurse license in California (pending licenses not accepted)
  • NURSYS verification required
  • State-specific license verifications as applicable

Experience & References

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant ICU experience
  • Minimum of 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting
  • Employment application covering at least the last 5 years required

Floating Policy

  • Acknowledgement required; may be required to float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
  • Fit mask testing required (annual update), onsite testing available if no recent record
  • Immunizations and/or titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
    • COVID-19 vaccine or declination (required if onsite)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)

Background Checks & Verifications

  • Background check within 45 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Education verification required for all candidates
  • State-specific searches as applicable (e.g., Washington WSP/WATCH, OBRA Registry for CNAs)
  • E-Verify attestation required
  • Additional background components: SSN trace, Death Master Index, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level 3, MVR (if applicable)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
  • Competency exams required by specialty/unit
  • Color Blind Testing if required by unit (minimum 80% score)

Training & Modules

  • Completion of Providence Health and Services WorkRamp Core and Specialty Modules prior to start
  • Epic training modules required (completion or transcript submission)
  • Annual regulatory and facility-specific training modules required
  • Modules assigned based on region, specialty, and facility

Additional Notes

  • Candidate must submit Return to Office (RTO) restrictions at time of submission
  • Physical and health documents must be current and uploaded prior to start
  • Facility provides free parking
  • Scrub color for RNs: Royal Blue

This position is ideal for ICU RNs with at least 1 year of experience who are flexible with weekend shifts and floating within the Providence hospital system in Southern California. The role requires compliance with Providence’s comprehensive credentialing, health, and training requirements.
