Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Call Requirement:
    • 5-6 on-call shifts every 2 weeks
    • Every other weekend on-call from Friday 5:30 PM to Monday 7 AM
    • One weekday on-call shift every 2 weeks
    • 30-minute response time required
  • Floating: No floating between units required
  • Block Schedule: May be accommodated at manager’s discretion
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend on-call only
  • First-timers: Not accepted (prior experience required)
  • Pending License: Not accepted

Experience & Certifications

  • Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 1 year of Cath Lab experience
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
  • Certifications Required:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification only
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) recommended
  • Other Certifications: May be required based on unit or specialty (refer to clinical track)

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Scrub Color: Any color allowed; L/D & OR scrubs provided
  • On-call: Yes, with specified shifts and response time
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off once per two-week pay period

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Must be completed within 45 days of start date
    • Includes SSN trace, death master index, nationwide and county checks, sex offender registry, FACIS Level 3, education verification, MVR (if applicable), and international background if applicable
    • Returning travelers with less than 30-day gap may not require new background check
  • Licenses:
    • Valid RN license required; no pending licenses accepted
    • NURSYS verification required for all RNs
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start
    • Fit mask test (annual) required for travel starts after 2/5/2024
    • Immunizations: TDAP, MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu seasonal vaccine (or declination), COVID vaccine or declination
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
    • Drug screen (10 panel) within 90 days of start
    • Respiratory safety clearance required annually for travel starts after 2/5/2024
  • References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years
  • Employment Application: Must include at least last 5 years of employment with month/year format; 7 years for APN/subcontractors
  • Skills Checklist: Required annually for applicable units

Training & Competency Requirements

  • Competency Exams: As applicable by specialty/profession
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable
  • Color Blind Testing: May be required on a unit basis
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) Certification: Required for L&D RNs if applicable
  • Fire Card: Required; must be obtained prior to or within 30 days post-start
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB), NIH Stroke Certification, CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute): May be required based on unit and clinical track
  • WorkRamp Modules:
    • Core and specialty-specific modules required prior to start and annually
    • Modules assigned based on region, specialty, and facility
    • Epic training modules required for Epic users prior to moving to productive status

Additional Notes

  • Call Response: 30-minute response time for on-call shifts
  • Floating Policy: Acknowledgement required; may be asked to float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance
  • Scrub Color: Any color allowed; L&D and OR scrubs provided
  • Charting System: Epic electronic health record system used

This position is ideal for experienced Cath Lab RNs who are comfortable with on-call responsibilities and working in a busy acute care Magnet hospital setting. Candidates must be fully credentialed and compliant with all Providence Health and Services requirements prior to start.
