Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Battle Creek, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

Preferred start date: March 2023
Must have experience in OB, Mother/Baby, and Labor & Delivery (L&D)
No return to office (RTO) required for the first two weeks of the contract
Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines for staffing
Work in all areas of Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) unit
Weekend requirement: work every other weekend
Float responsibilities include sitter duties and possible float to a nearby facility (approx. 27 miles away) when census allows
No on-call required
Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system used: EPIC
Unit details: 15-bed LDRP unit with 3 triage bays and 2 operating rooms
Nursing duties include antepartum, labor and delivery, OR circulating, scrub nurse, newborn nurse at delivery, and couplet care
Nurses perform lab draws and newborn hearing screens (ALGO 5 Machine)
Scrubs will be provided
Training provided for newborn infant hearing screens

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Michigan
Labor and Delivery experience with a minimum of 2 years, including experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
NRP certification
Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) Triage skills

Additional Requirements

Must be willing to float as sitter and to nearby facility when needed
Complete newborn infant hearing screen training
Weekend work every other weekend
Must follow AWHONN staffing guidelines

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search back to age 18
E-Verify and I-9 documentation required
Government-issued photo ID required
Education verification (copy of highest degree or diploma)
Physical exam within 1 year of start
Drug testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start
Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (proof of 1 prior Tdap vaccine)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 30 days of start
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (for candidates starting after Nov 1)
Fingerprinting (Michigan LARA) required within 45 days of start for certain positions; check if applicable
Central Registry Clearance required for L&D and pediatric placements (wet signature required)
Completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgment
Medication/pharmacology competency exam within 1 year prior to assignment start with passing score of at least 80%
Skills checklist updated annually

References and History

One professional reference from a supervisor or manager required
Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps
