Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Location: Burlington, Vermont
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Job Description

  • Assignment in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) - Telemetry, Miller 4
  • Schedule: Every other weekend; Monday to Sunday shifts
  • Floating required to Medical/Surgical or other Progressive Care areas (travelers float first)
  • Must be flexible with scheduling
  • Experience in cardiology unit specialty required, including post catheterization, STEMIs, and structural heart patients
  • EPIC electronic medical record experience within the past 2 years is required (non-negotiable)
  • Large teaching facility experience preferred
  • Prior travel experience preferred
  • No block schedules allowed
  • Reliable personal or rental vehicle strongly recommended (public transportation not accessible)
  • Bi-weekly orientations on Mondays

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Vermont
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA approved)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (AHA approved)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification required prior to start
  • EPIC experience within last 2 years
  • Willingness to float to other units within the Central Pool PCU
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, flexible environment

Certifications & Compliance

  • Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Education verification as required
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start and updated annually
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as required
  • Color blind testing required
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • N95 Fit Test required prior to assignment and updated annually
  • Immunizations and health requirements including:
    • Tdap within 10 years or titer
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray if positive TB
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B series and titer or signed declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (during flu season)
    • COVID vaccination or declination
    • Pneumonia vaccination or declination if assigned to NY facility
  • Drug testing as required (varies by state)
  • Completion of EPIC and Cornerstone training modules prior to start (approx. 8 hours, non-billable)
  • Annual safety and orientation acknowledgements

Additional Requirements

  • Complete all work history information including bed count, EMR, and facility type
  • Explain any employment gaps over 30 days
  • Must complete Vermont Adult and Child Abuse Registry Consent Form
  • Must complete COVID questionnaire and vaccination attestation prior to start
  • Must provide passport-style photo for badge (plain background, no logos or hats)
  • Must review dress code and telephone usage policies prior to start
  • Must complete emergency contact and candidate information forms
  • Auto insurance required if using personal or rental vehicle
  • Must comply with COVID testing protocol on Day 1 of work (mask wearing and social distancing required)

References & Verification

  • Two professional references from assignments within the last 3 years
  • Employment application and skills checklist within 12 months
  • Two-year verification of most recent clinical work history

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is preferred but not explicitly required
  • Reliable transportation is essential due to limited public transit options
  • Floating to other units is mandatory, with travelers floating first

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with cardiology and telemetry experience who are comfortable working in a large teaching hospital environment and have recent EPIC experience.
