Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Odessa, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

Role: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)
Schedule: Alternating 36/48 hour shifts (Days)
Shift Hours: 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM (12-hour shifts)
Weekend Requirement: 12 weekend shifts (Saturday or Sunday) required per contract

Required Certifications

ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted
BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted
TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) Certification (required for ICU, MS, and MS/Tele RNs)
Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) – Pharmacology exam given onsite at orientation

Required Licenses & Experience

Valid RN license in Texas
Minimum of 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Health & Safety Requirements

Physical Exam within 1 year of start (must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing)
Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray (PPD, QGold, or TSpot within 1 year; Chest X-Ray within 2 years if positive)
Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (series, positive titer, or declination)
- Varicella
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (October–April)
COVID initial series or facility-specific declination required (annual boosters not required)
Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant acceptable)

Fit Mask Test within 1 year, updated annually (N-95 or Halyard Orange Duckbill masks accepted; PAPR not accepted)

Pros

Pro RT environment, working with the unit staff and department staff. Charting is easy cerner. If you know your job you will be fine.

Cons

Scheduling is very difficult for travelers. Full time is 3&4, weekends are alternating Saturday and Sunday. Bureaucracy issues. Housing is difficult to find and expensive due to oil city. In the NICU you are on your own not many staff or team leads crossed trained. There is some disorganization.
