Registered Nurse - CVPICU (Columbus, Ohio) - Travel/Contract


Job Details

  • Location: Columbus, Ohio
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Hours per Week: 36 hours
  • Unit: CVPICU (Cardiovascular Pediatric Intensive Care Unit)
  • Floating: Required; may float to NICU, PICU, ED, stepdown, and medical-surgical units as needed

Required Qualifications

  • License: Ohio State or Compact Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Experience: Prefer close to 2 years of RN experience
  • References: Two professional supervisory references required; at least one must be from a supervisor or manager (Charge RN acceptable for one reference; peer references not accepted)
  • Skills: Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be updated annually

Certifications (Must be AHA or equivalent, name on certification must exactly match legal name and RN license)

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – required for NICU RNs (may be relevant due to floating)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) – as applicable
  • National or state-required technical certifications as applicable

Compliance and Background Requirements

  • Government Issued Photo ID: Current and legal name must match RN license and certifications; temporary IDs or paper licenses are not acceptable
  • Criminal Background Check: Within 30 days of start; 7-year search including all counties lived/worked; education verification must be standalone through National Student Clearinghouse
  • Fingerprinting: Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprinting required within 60 days of start; must be completed within 24-48 hours of signing contract; results can pend at start if facility completes onsite
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG Checks: Required within 30 days of start, must be run separately from background check
  • Sex Offender Search: Required within 30 days of start
  • State-Specific Searches: Ohio Nurse Aide Registry, Ohio Inmate Registry, Ohio Medicaid Exemption, Ohio State Abuse Registry – all required within 30 days of start
  • Education Verification: Must verify highest degree through National Student Clearinghouse or in-house verification if school is not listed; special approval required for nursing diplomas below ASN/BSN
  • Employment Application and Resume: Required
  • References: Two supervisory references required

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start (facility accepts signed Infection Control Policy in lieu of physical exam copy)
  • TB Testing: Two PPDs (first within 12 months, second within 90 days) or QGOLD/TSPOT within 12 months; for positive results, negative chest x-ray and treatment documentation required; TB Questionnaire must be completed prior to start
  • Vaccinations:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (must be after age 11)
    • Flu vaccine required annually (Oct 31 - May 31); medical/religious exemptions accepted with facility approval and mask requirement during flu season
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no religious exemptions accepted; boosters required if titer negative or equivocal
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters required if titer negative or equivocal
    • Hepatitis B: Declination, completed 3 vaccine series, or positive titer required
  • Drug Screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start, including amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, marijuana, methadone, phencyclidine, fentanyl; must be initiated within 72 hours of signed contract
  • N95 Fit Testing: Required within 1 year of start and updated annually; acceptable masks specified; onsite fit testing allowed if prior testing not completed before start

  • Floating: Must comply with facility float expectations and be willing to float to NICU, PICU, ED, stepdown, and medical-surgical units
