Registered Nurse – Emergency Department (Travel/Contract)

Location: Honesdale, Pennsylvania
Assignment Length: 13 weeks (with potential extension)
Shift: 12-hour shifts (Days, Nights, or Rotating)
Hours per Week: 36 hours (3 shifts of 12 hours) with opportunities for overtime


Position Summary

Seeking an experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse for a fast-paced environment providing emergency care to patients of all acuity levels. The ED includes 18 treatment rooms, private rooms, trauma room, Fast Track for lower-acuity patients, and negative-pressure isolation rooms. The department operates 24/7 with a multidisciplinary team.


Responsibilities

  • Rapid assessment and triage of emergency patients
  • Provide evidence-based nursing care for medical, surgical, cardiac, neurologic, respiratory, orthopedic, and trauma emergencies
  • Administer medications, IV therapy, blood products, and emergency interventions per physician orders and protocols
  • Monitor patient conditions and respond promptly to clinical changes
  • Assist with emergency procedures including cardiac emergencies, stroke response, sepsis management, trauma stabilization, and respiratory emergencies
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, radiology, laboratory, and ancillary staff
  • Document patient care accurately in electronic medical records
  • Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment, and discharge instructions
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention, and patient safety initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Pennsylvania
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience, including experience within the last year
  • Current BLS issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current ACLS issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current PALS issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in a community hospital Emergency Department
  • Strong IV insertion and critical assessment skills
  • Experience caring for both pediatric and adult emergency patients
  • Previous travel nursing experience preferred but not required

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Emergency contact form prior to start
  • Background checks including SS trace, county searches (last 7 years), nationwide sex offender, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG (updated annually)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Immunizations and titers as applicable:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (proof of immunity or vaccination)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
    • Varicella (titer, vaccination, or history of chickenpox)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination (during flu season)
    • COVID vaccination card or declination
  • Drug screening: 9 or 11 panel within required timeframe prior to start
  • Pennsylvania-specific clearances: Child Abuse Search, Department of Human Services Fingerprint Results, PATCH Search
  • Professional references: 2 for travel/allied/per diem acute care; 1 for per diem non-acute care (within 3 years)
  • Annual skills checklist and competency exams including medication/pharmacology competency
