Pediatrics Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Omaha, Nebraska
Position Overview
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Location: Omaha, Nebraska
- Unit: Mixed-acuity pediatric unit with 24 beds
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Patient Ratios:
- PICU: 1:2
- PCU: 1:3
- Acute care: 1:4
- Call Requirements: May be placed on call for regularly scheduled shifts
- Roving Role: All staff, including travelers, may be required to serve as a Rover nurse/task nurse on any inpatient unit (including NICU, Labor and Delivery, adult acute care) performing tasks such as turning, bathing, patient transport assistance, ambulation, meal assistance, and medication administration within training and comfort zone
- Scheduling:
- 4-week scheduling period (Monday through Sunday)
- Travelers do not self-schedule; scheduling is done by unit scheduler based on unit needs
- Requests for no more than 3 consecutive shifts or consecutive shift scheduling considered but not guaranteed
- Weekend Requirement: Minimum 3 weekend shifts plus a Friday day shift (day travelers) or Sunday night shift (night travelers); may be adjusted per unit needs
- Facility is 100% nicotine-free
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska
- Minimum 2 years of pediatric nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience working with pediatric patients in a clinical setting
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Valid Driver's License
Contract Details
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Hours per Week: 36 hours (3 shifts x 12 hours)
Facility & Uniform
- Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs (facility branded) required for RNs; facility provides information on obtaining scrubs after confirmation
- Parking: Parking permits available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Background check within 30 days of start, updated annually (includes multi-county, statewide, nationwide, sex offender, federal, and education verification)
- EPLS/SAM and OIG checks required within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter
- Education verification required
- State-specific abuse/neglect registry check required within 30 days of start
- Primary source license verification and NURSYS verification required prior to start
- Annual physical exam and fit mask test (3M 1860 Small/Regular or 3M 1870+) required
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap within last 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray with TB questionnaire if positive history
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer (boosters if low/equivocal titers)
- Hepatitis B titer or declination
- 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer (boosters if low/equivocal titers)
- Drug screen within 60 days of start, updated annually
- Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
- COVID vaccine preferred; medical/religious exemption or declination accepted
- Annual skills checklist required
- Two professional references from the past 2 years required (one must be from most recent employer if not a current traveler)
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
Additional Notes
- Eye exam (Snellen) required only for travelers working in the OR (not applicable here)
- Travelers must adhere to facility policies including scrubs and nicotine-free environment
- Scheduling flexibility is limited; travelers must coordinate days off with core staff if not stipulated in contract
This position is ideal for experienced pediatric RNs with Level I Trauma Center background seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity pediatric setting with structured scheduling and specific certification requirements.
