Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Randallstown, Maryland
Shift: Nights (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in the Emergency Room (ER) on night shifts.
  • Schedule includes every other weekend and every other holiday.
  • Patient ratios range from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on unit.
  • Unit includes specialized care areas:
    • Primary Stroke Center (Gold status with American Heart Association)
    • STEMI cases with potential Cath lab intervention
    • Two locked Behavioral Health units (ratio 1:6) supported by ED staffing and security
    • Two rapid evaluation units for urgent and critical care needs with rapid medical screenings
  • Scrubs color: Navy Blue
  • Unit accepts first-time travel nurses.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse license valid in Maryland.
  • Minimum 3 years of ER nursing experience.
  • Certifications required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification (must be current within 1 year)
  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required.
  • Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, updated annually.
  • Education verification required; nursing program must be approved by Maryland Board of Nursing if completed out-of-state.
  • Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to meet essential job functions.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; pending results allowed if confirmed completed.
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer or proof of chickenpox history)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or signed declination)
  • Annual flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31).
  • Completion of unit-specific competency exams including medication and dysrhythmia/EKG competency (Relias or Prophecy platforms accepted).
  • Pass/fail testing acknowledgment required.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required based on unit.

Additional Compliance Requirements

  • EKG competency exam:
    • Must be passed within 3 attempts (2 attempts for some units).
    • Study guides provided; remediation required if failed.
    • Some units require on-site EKG exam if remote attempts fail.
  • Stroke and Trauma CEUs:
    • Stroke CEUs must be completed prior to or within one week of start; NIHSS counts toward hours but additional stroke CEUs required.
    • Trauma CEUs required after 27 weeks of work; initial 16-hour trauma course or TNCC accepted.
  • Facility-specific documents to complete prior to start:
    • Badge photo
    • Parking registration form
    • Consent to release information
    • Attendance and floating policies for contracted staff
    • ReadySet account setup and health assessment surveys
  • Verification of employment for last 7 years (2 employers minimum) or professional references as backup.

Health and Safety

  • Respirator fit testing will be completed onsite; PAPR training provided if fit test is failed.
  • TB questionnaire must be updated annually.
  • Labs must be completed by Monday prior to start to ensure on-time reporting.

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are accepted.
  • This is a travel/contract position with a 14-week assignment length.
  • The role requires working night shifts with a 36-hour workweek.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity ER setting with specialized stroke and behavioral health units, supported by a strong team and security presence. Candidates must meet all licensure, certification, and compliance requirements to be considered.
