NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours guaranteed


Job Summary

  • Care for neonates including 32-week premature and full-term newborns in a mixed acuity Level 4 NICU unit.
  • Must be willing and able to float within scope to Pediatric ICU, Level II NICU, and Mother-Baby Unit (MBU).
  • Proficiency required with IV vasopressors, High Frequency Ventilation, High Flow Nasal Cannula, Respiratory Distress Syndrome management, and ventilator management.
  • Facility is a Level I Trauma, Teaching, Children’s Hospital providing short-term acute care.

Contract Details

  • Contract length: 13 weeks minimum.
  • New contracts and extensions must be at least 10 weeks.
  • A 6-month break is required after 4 consecutive assignments or one year of cumulative travel work at this facility.
  • Locals within 100 miles are not accepted.
  • Pending New Mexico nursing license accepted.
  • Facility may call off up to 3 times during the 13-week assignment.
  • Weekend requirement: 12 shifts per contract.
  • Overtime applies after 48 hours per week (effective 10/30/2025).
  • Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions: Absences longer than 7 days require approval.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New Mexico.
  • Minimum 2 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience, with NICU experience within the last year.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Orientation and Training

  • Cerner electronic health record training required; option to test out if experienced.
  • Orientation includes fingerprinting and safety manual acknowledgement.
  • Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam required for some units but not NICU.
  • Pass/fail testing and competency exams must be completed within specified timeframes.

Work Environment and Other Details

  • Facility uses Cerner for charting.
  • Scrub color: Black.
  • Free parking available.
  • No on-call requirement.
  • Floating to other pediatric units may be required.
  • COVID vaccination required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with proper documentation.
  • Two professional references within three years required.
  • Complete employment application with at least 3 years of work history required.
  • Work history verification for 3 years required.

  • Candidates must review and sign various facility-specific documents including traveler compliance forms and confidentiality statements.
  • Candidates must complete background registration and emergency contact forms prior to start.
  • Facility is not near public transportation; candidates must have reliable transportation.
  • Candidates unable to pay fingerprinting fees may request exceptions but this is a last resort.
  • Facility requires adherence to specific infection control and safety protocols.
