5S Trauma Stepdown RN

Role Overview

• Travel/Contract RN in Charleston, West Virginia.
• Based in a 5S Trauma Stepdown (IMC/PCU) unit.
• Night shift: 19:00–07:00, with 3x12 or 4x12 options.
• Weekdays, every other weekend, and float are part of the schedule.
• 36- or 48-hour contract options; 36 hours are guaranteed.

Unit Details

• 25 floor beds, 6 step-down beds, and 6 peds beds.
• Multidisciplinary care for multi-system-injured trauma patients and surgical patients.
• The unit provides intermediate care in a six-bed stepdown area.
• Travelers are not required to see peds patients.
• The assignment may be for floor beds only, depending on interview discussion.
• Ratios: floor RN 1:5; SDU 1:3.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in West Virginia
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• 2 years of RN experience.
• 1 year of in-specialty experience.
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit (1 year of experience)
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
• ICU - Intensive Care Unit experience
• Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
• BLS.
• ACLS.
• Fit test.
• CPI.
• IV insertion skills
• Experience with mechanical ventilation
• Experience with telemetry
• Experience with conscious or moderate sedation
• Driver's License
• Pending license submissions are accepted.

Preferred Qualifications

• TNCC.
• Backgrounds in PCU, IMC, Trauma, or SDU.
• First-time travelers are accepted if experienced in ICU or Trauma.

Scheduling and Assignment Notes

• Orientation/start dates are held every other Thursday.
• Every other weekend is required.
• The manager may call the traveler off once per 2-week pay period if necessary.
• Blocked schedule requests may be accommodated.
• Holiday RTO requests should be limited to no more than 1 of the 3 major holidays.
• Clinicians may be floated within scope to meet facility needs.

Compliance and Submission Notes

• Flu shot is required during flu season unless a valid medical or religious exemption is approved.
• COVID vaccine is not required.
• A valid driver’s license and Social Security card are required for submission.
• References: 1 manager, supervisor, or charge nurse reference from a facility worked within 1 year of start.
• Annual specialty skills checklist is required.
• Cerner is used for charting.

• Parking is free for travelers.
• The facility is a Level 1 trauma center and major teaching hospital.
