Registered Nurse – Women's Services (L&D, Postpartum, LDRP)

Location: Nampa, Idaho
Assignment Length: 13 weeks (travel assignment)
Shift: 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p)
Weekly Hours: Approximately 48 hours


Job Overview

  • Provide nursing care in Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Operating Room circulation/triage within a 14-bed LDRP unit.
  • Attend deliveries, provide 1 hour of newborn care, circulate in C-sections, and manage postpartum couplet care.
  • Float to multiple sites within the region as needed, including Meridian, Nampa, and Boise, within primary skill set or as a sitter.
  • Work with a diverse patient population including antepartum, 32+ week gestation, hypertensive patients on magnesium, gestational diabetes, and TOLACs.
  • Follow AWHONN staffing standards:
    • Labor: 1:1 ratio (can pair 2 cervical ripening patients)
    • Postpartum: 1:3 couplets
    • Triage: 1:3 (up to 4 with resource nurse support)

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Labor & Delivery (L&D), Postpartum, and OR circulation/triage.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), ACLS, BLS, and STABLE certifications required.
  • Experience with magnesium sulfate administration and titration of drips (Pitocin, Magnesium, Insulin).
  • Ability to attend deliveries and provide newborn stabilization and care.
  • Charge nurse experience preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to titrate drips and manage postpartum couplet care.
  • First-time travelers are accepted; prior travel experience is not required.

Unit & Patient Care Details

  • 14 LDRP beds where patients stay in the same room throughout their stay.
  • 2 OR suites for C-sections; RNs circulate and recover patients.
  • 4 triage beds staffed by travelers.
  • Approximately 90 births per month (1200 per year).
  • No placenta previa or placenta accreta patients accepted.
  • OB hospitalist and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner available 24/7.
  • Anesthesia available 24/7.
  • Respiratory therapy available for equipment troubleshooting.
  • No dedicated telemetry/monitor techs; RNs rarely need to read their own strips.
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring system: Centricity.

Staffing & Scheduling

  • Shifts: 7a-7p and 7p-7a for resource and charge nurses.
  • Travelers fill scheduling gaps; preference considered but no guaranteed block scheduling.
  • No minimum weekend or holiday requirements for travelers; may work holidays if needed.
  • No call or standby requirements.
  • Charge nurses do not take patient assignments.
  • Resource and triage nurses assist with breaks and deliveries.

Orientation & Policies

  • 4 shifts of unit-specific orientation covering C-section, labor, and postpartum care.
  • Compliance and EPIC Curio assignments must be completed before starting.
  • Hospital-issued scrubs required; must change in and out at shift start/end.
  • No fingernail lacquer, acrylic, or gel nails allowed due to embedded NICU proximity.
  • Travel duos require separate vehicles due to floating between sites.
  • Radius rule: Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility.

Additional Notes

  • The unit includes 1 Certified Surgical Tech and 1 Certified Nursing Assistant per shift, though CNA coverage may vary.
  • The unit serves a community with many home birth midwives, leading to patients seeking medical intervention and pain control.
  • Floating may include all regional sites within the travel radius.
