Average Daily Census: 3-5 patients
Patient Ratios: One RN on duty with behavioral health technician and desk attendant

Job Description
Provide nursing care in a Behavioral Health/Psychiatric unit at a level III trauma center. The unit focuses on adult patients with diagnoses such as depression, suicidality, schizophrenia, and drug-induced psychosis. The role involves patient interviews, medication administration (psychiatric medications), de-escalation techniques, and basic wound care. The schedule is likely fixed with shifts such as Sunday-Tuesday or Monday-Wednesday. Staff may be placed on call if unit census drops to zero. No float requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
- Minimum 1 year of Behavioral Health experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Pros
Unit is comprised of many travelers. Core staff and travelers have all been fantastic! The unit is set up quite well to manage the surges of patients. It is the only main hospital around so it can definitely provide good experience. Most of the providers I've encountered over the last couple months actually listen to the nurses and are easy to work with.
Cons
It is definitely busy before the size of the town. I can't say I have any other cons.
