Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Patient ratio: 1-2 couplets
- Care setting includes Antepartum, Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Postpartum (LDRP), and Mother/Baby units
- Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with sterile speculum exams (effacement, dilation, station, presentation)
- Performing Non-Stress Tests (NST)
- Conducting reflex checks, edema assessment, and clonus evaluation
- Sterile vaginal exams
- Use and calibration of Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM), including external and internal fetal monitoring and intrauterine pressure catheter (IUPC) placement
- Recognizing and treating abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Administering blood and blood products
- Drawing venous blood and starting/maintaining peripheral IVs
- Operating infusion pumps, drips, and IV monitoring
- Medication administration
- Postpartum care and procedures, including care for vaginal delivery, cesarean section, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, and pregnancy-induced hypertension
- Assisting with high-risk deliveries, vaginal deliveries, C-sections (circulating), forceps/vacuum extraction, and recovery
- Neonatal care in delivery room, including cord care, infant identification, newborn assessment, hypoglycemia management, and discharge teaching to parents
- Epidural/general anesthesia support and pain assessment/management
- Isolation precautions, PPE use, and vaccine administration
- Occasional floating to Postpartum unit if within scope
- Weekend requirement: Minimum 3 weekend shifts per month (Saturday/Sunday only)
- No on-call required
- First-time travelers considered only with minimum 5 years of experience
- Local candidates are welcome
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Arizona
- Minimum 3 years of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
- Clinical skills and proficiencies including:
- Ability to assist with sterile speculum exams (effacement, dilation, station, presentation)
- Ability to perform Non-Stress Tests (NST)
- Ability to perform sterile vaginal exams
- Proficiency with external fetal heart monitoring (EFM)
- Proficiency with external and internal fetal monitoring
- Proficiency with intrauterine pressure catheter (IUPC) placement and calibration
- Ability to recognize and treat abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Ability to administer blood and blood products
- Ability to perform amnioinfusion
- Ability to assist with high-risk deliveries
