Registered Nurse - NICU (North Carolina, Charlotte)

Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Provide nursing care in a Level 3 or 4 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • Patient population includes premature infants (as early as 22 weeks), surgical infants, and those with hypoxic injury
  • Special procedures include Therapeutic Hypothermia, Nitric Oxide therapy, UAC/UVC lines, Broviac catheters, tracheostomies, gastrostomy tubes, and ostomies
  • Equipment used: Tecotherm, BCPAP, Ram NC, Alaris IV pumps, Med Fusion feeding pumps, Servo ventilators, HFOV, Baby Leo, Giraffe incubators
  • Unit systems: Pyxis medication system, EPIC electronic health records, SBAR communication, 4P staffing model
  • Float requirement includes Pediatrics, PICU, and nursery care for infants up to 12 months
  • Self-scheduling based on unit needs

Shift & Hours

  • Night shift only: 18:45 to 07:15 (12-hour shifts)
  • 36 hours per week (3 shifts per week)
  • Patient-to-nurse ratios range from 1:2 to 1:4
  • Weekend requirement: 3 Fridays, 3 Saturdays, and 3 Sundays within a 6-week period
  • No call requirement

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), with NICU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Orientation & Dress Code

  • 24 hours of unit orientation provided
  • Scrubs: Navy blue or white

Time Off & Attendance

  • Return to Office (RTO) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite
  • Maximum of 7 days RTO allowed for auto-offer
  • Call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation and Do Not Rehire (DNR) status

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check within 6 months for clinical candidates
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start (with exceptions for past positives)
  • Required immunizations and titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Physical exam and references required per travel agency standards
  • Mandatory completion of facility-specific education and compliance training modules
  • Photo ID for badge creation required immediately after signing contract (passport-style photo on white background)
  • Proof of logging into facility’s learning management system (I-Learn) within 24 hours of account setup
  • Medication Safety training certificate required prior to start
  • Confidentiality agreement and hospital policies acknowledgment required

Patient Care & Unit Details

  • Care for infants including premature and surgical cases with complex needs
  • Use of advanced neonatal equipment and monitoring systems
  • Exposure to specialized procedures such as therapeutic hypothermia and nitric oxide therapy

Additional Notes

  • This position is strictly night shift with no call and specific weekend coverage requirements
  • Candidates must be able to float to related pediatric units as needed
  • Strict attendance and RTO policies to maintain assignment status
