Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN L&D)
  • Required Experience: Minimum 2 years with high-risk (level 3) obstetrics experience
  • Required Skills: Heparin drip experience
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
  • Floating: Mandatory floating within the facility as needed
  • Locals accepted; preference given to local candidates within 75 miles

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • AWHONN Intermediate
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification

Preferred Certification:

  • AWHONN Advanced

Licensure

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Illinois
  • Pending licenses are not accepted

Facility & Work Environment

  • Level 1 Trauma Center
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Scrub color: Any color allowed

Time Off and Scheduling Policies

  • Request Time Off (RTO): Maximum 5 days total, no more than 2 consecutive days
  • No RTO allowed on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday
  • No block scheduling

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
  • Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years; must include all aliases
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
  • Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually; chest x-ray and TB questionnaire if history positive
  • Immunizations/vaccinations:
    • Tdap within 10 years or signed declination (declination must be within 12 months)
    • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for measles, mumps, rubella (boosters if low titer)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
    • 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer (booster if low titer)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – May 4)
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year; medical or religious exemptions require approval for onsite PAPR use
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam and general competency exam required within 12 months of start
  • Color blind testing required within 12 months for starts after Jan 16, 2024

Training Requirements

  • Completion of PromisePoint EMR training modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours) with passing grades required
  • Facility-specific forms and rules of behavior must be reviewed and completed

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience working with high-risk obstetric patients (Level 3)
  • Heparin drip experience
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • AWHONN Intermediate certification
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) competency
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
