Position Details
- Job Title: Pediatric Stepdown Registered Nurse

- Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 19:00 - 7:30)
- Hours per Week: 48 hours
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Patient Population & Unit Details
- Patient Diagnoses: Cardiac defects (medical and surgical)
- Unit Specialty: Pediatric Cardiac Stepdown
- Special Procedures/Equipment:
- Tracheostomies and ventilators
- High flow nasal cannula
- Post-operative catheter care
- Post-operative care after Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU)
- Inotropes administration
- Care for heart and lung transplant patients
Required Qualifications
- License: Current Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) license in hand
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac Stepdown nursing experience
- References: Two professional references required at time of submission; at least one must be a manager or supervisor (Charge RN acceptable for one reference; peer references not accepted)
- Work Schedule: Every other weekend required
Certifications (Must be current and name must exactly match RN license)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA/AAP only (required for NICU RNs)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as applicable
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) - as applicable
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start (7-year search including every county lived/worked; education verification must be standalone)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprinting within 60 days of start; must be updated for each new contract
- Education verification through National Student Clearinghouse or in-house verification if school is unverifiable
- Sex offender search within 30 days of start
- Ohio Nurse Aide Registry, Inmate Registry, Medicaid Exemption, and Abuse Registry searches within 30 days of start
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, marijuana, methadone, phencyclidine, fentanyl)
- Employment application and copy of resume required
- Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be updated annually
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (candidates sign Infection Control Policy in lieu of physical copy)
- N95 fit testing within 1 year of start; must be updated annually
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years of start (must be completed after age 11; titer not accepted in place of vaccine)
- TB testing options:
- Two PPDs (first within 12 months, second within 90 days), OR
- QGOLD/TSPOT (IGRA) within 12 months (acceptable if no TB signs or international travel)
- For positive TB results, additional chest x-ray and treatment documentation required
- Annual TB questionnaire required prior to start
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): Positive titer or two vaccines required; no religious exemptions accepted; boosters required if titer negative or equivocal
- Hepatitis B: Declination, completed 3-vaccine series, or positive titer required
- Varicella: Positive titer or two vaccines required; boosters required if titer negative or equivocal
- Seasonal flu vaccine required October 31 - May 31; medical/religious exemptions require facility approval and mask-wearing during flu season
- Additional facility-specific health documents and policies must be completed prior to start
Additional Notes
- Current government-issued photo ID required within 24-48 hours of contract signing; must match legal name on RN license and other credentials
- Address on ID must match records; Ohio driver’s license address must be outside 60 miles of facility to avoid being considered local
- Fingerprint results may pend at start; facility can complete fingerprints onsite if necessary
- Candidates undergoing name changes must provide proof and may require approval
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
