Job Details

• Unit: Float Pool Pod A ICU
• Ratios: 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Experience Required: Minimum 1 year
• First-timers accepted
• Weekend Requirement: Minimum every other weekend, may exceed based on unit needs
• On-call: Not required
• Floating: Required to float between like units; may be required to float to nearby Providence facilities (e.g., Providence Mission Laguna)
• Block Schedule: May be accommodated at manager’s discretion
• Pending License: Not accepted
• Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off once per two-week pay period
• Local Radius: 50 miles

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
• NIH Stroke Certification
• Other certifications may be required based on unit and clinical track (e.g., PALS, NRP)

Licensing

• Must have a valid state license (California)
• NURSYS verification required for all RNs
• CPDH Certificate required for Respiratory Therapists working in CA (if applicable)

Background and Compliance Requirements

• Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
• Education verification required for all candidates (nursing degree verification for RNs)
• Drug testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
• References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment within last 3 years in comparable specialty/setting
• Employment application covering at least last 5 years (7 years for APN/Subcontractors)
• Skills checklist updated annually (if applicable)

Health and Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
• Fit mask testing required for travel candidates (updated annually)
• Immunizations/vaccinations required:

  • TDAP (within 10 years) or declination
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (updated annually)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) or positive titers/declination
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer/declination
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
  • COVID-19 vaccine or declination (required if onsite)
• Respiratory safety clearance required for travel candidates (annual)

Floating Policy

• Acknowledgement required; may float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance

Training and Competency Requirements

• Completion of Providence Health and Services WorkRamp modules prior to start, including:

  • Core modules by profession and region (California)
  • Specialty-specific modules for ICU and other relevant specialties
  • Annual regulatory and compliance modules
• Epic training modules required for Providence facilities in Southern California
• Medication and pharmacology competency exams as applicable
• Color blindness testing if required by unit

Additional Notes

• Pending licenses are not accepted
• Candidates must submit Return to Office (RTO) restrictions at time of submission
• Facility may call off once per two-week pay period
• Local candidates within 50 miles may have different pay rates (contact recruiter for details)
