Job Opportunity: Radiation Oncology Registered Nurse
Location: Duarte, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Outpatient clinic setting specializing in oncology patient population including head and neck, breast, gynecological, lung, gastrointestinal, neurological, transplant, prostate, and urological cancers.
- Patient age groups served: adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
- Clinic consists of 12 rooms and 2 procedure rooms, functioning as a care team rather than individual patient ratios.
- No float, call, or weekend shifts required.
- Work schedule: Days, Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (5x8 hour shifts).
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience, with oncology experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Chemotherapy certification (CHEMO or Cemo)
- PICC line care experience
- Care coordination skills
- Telephone triage experience
Required Skills and Clinical Experience
- Understanding and management of high dose radiation therapy techniques (interstitial, ring tandem, vaginal cylinder, total body irradiation, head and neck scoping, pelvic exams, spaceoar treatment).
- Head and neck scope management and point-of-care testing.
- Ability to recognize and communicate abnormal lab values.
- Accessing and managing ports, central line blood draws, and care of central/implanted lines.
- Infusion pump management and intravenous hydration/multivitamin administration.
- PICC line care, starting and maintaining IVs, administration of antibiotics, sepsis management, and IV push narcotic agents.
- Care coordination and telephone triage.
- Isolation precautions and proper use of PPE.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Outpatient oncology and radiation oncology experience.
- Recognition and management of side effects related to various cancers including brain, breast, colorectal, ENT, lung, melanoma, ovarian/uterine, pancreatic, and prostate cancers.
- Handling and disposal of body fluids post-chemotherapy and cytotoxic spills.
- PCA pump management.
- Colostomy/ileostomy and Foley catheter care.
- Telemetry interpretation and monitoring.
- Tracheostomy care and wound care.
- Radiation safety precautions and management of alterations in skin and mucous membranes.
- Neuropathy management.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Background checks including social security trace, education verification, and national sex offender registry.
- Primary source verification of RN license prior to start.
- Annual competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable.
- Physical exam within the last 12 months.
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray as applicable.
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccination or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B series or positive titer (declination requires proof of non-immune status).
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer (declination requires notification and accommodations).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season.
- Drug screening: 10-panel oral drug screen within 1 year of start.
- Respirator questionnaire and annual respirator clearance for respirator use.
- Facility-specific forms including job description acknowledgement, health focus questionnaire, and COVID-19 related declination or booster documentation as applicable.
Additional Information
- Scrubs (Caribbean blue) are not provided by the unit.
- Badge photo requirements: passport style with solid background (exceptions apply).
- No weekend or call shifts required.
This position is ideal for experienced Radiation Oncology RNs with prior travel experience seeking a structured outpatient clinic role with a specialized oncology patient population.
